About the book

1948. A fourteen-year-old girl is brutally murdered. Suspicion falls on the owner of the art cooperative where she lived. However, the head of the anti-banditry department, Major Vitaly Shchelkunov, is sure that the murderer is someone else. Shchelkunov hears a witness who claims that it was she who killed the girl and robbed the cooperative's cash desk. But can a half-crazed woman be believed? Though from her words it is clear that she really was at the cooperative on the day of the crime. The investigator decides to use this circumstance and soon understands what kind of monster he is to face...

A unique chance to return to one of the brightest periods of Soviet history: the postwar time. Real people, real criminal cases, gripping plot twists.

Characters resembling the cult figures of the film “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed”. The spirit of the time, tenderly kept in many families. An unusual and realistic look at the “kitchen” of the everyday work of the Soviet militia.
