SMERSH: Stalin's Special Forces

It is about military counter-intelligence. I wrote the first book on the subject back in the early 2000s. There are more than ten of them now, published in the series “SMERSH: Stalin's Special Forces”. In general, to succeed you have to write about what nobody has written about before you. It is like science: you work where no one has explored yet.

Soviet counter-intelligence had always interested me, and then, while I was collecting material about a Kazan gang of the 1940s, someone told me there was a man who had served in SMERSH. [...] I never gave up the subject, and in 2002 I wrote my first novel about military counter-intelligence. In recent history it was the first novel about SMERSH. The second came out in 2006: “Kill Stalin”. I have given more than ten novels to this theme. But I have not told even a fifth of what I wanted to tell. The subject really is boundless.
