About the book

Death does not look for open doors...

In the furnished rooms of the Moscow-region town of Dmitrov the traveling salesman Grigory Stasko has been killed. Death came from a blow to the temple with brass knuckles, and the room was locked from the inside with the windows closed. On arrival the guest had two baskets of expensive pocket watches and a solid sum of money, which later vanished. The case is entrusted to the judicial investigator Ivan Fyodorovich Volovtsov. Suspicion falls on the townswoman Kats, who had earlier threatened to deal with Stasko for a husband he had wronged. What is more, her brother had already paid at the nearest brothel with watches from the murdered salesman's luggage. The picture of the crime seems clear... But Volovtsov is tormented by doubts. And not by chance: unexpectedly a new suspect appears in the case...

A historical detective novel about a crime of the early last century. The author immerses us in the atmosphere of that time so vividly that we can literally hear the clatter of the cobblestones, the noise of the city bazaar, the ringing of bells and the piercing whistles of the policemen...
