About the book

Moscow of the 1920s... The narrow lanes of Khitrovka and Sukharevka are a haven for criminals of every kind: pickpockets, burglars, safecrackers, raiders, card sharps... Kiryan Kurakhin is one of the most powerful bosses of this world. He is a zhigan, which means a mortal enemy of the old-school thieves, the urkas, who strictly hold to their laws. The urkas thirst for Kiryan's blood, but the king of Khitrovka is bold and elusive. It is not only the urkas who hunt the zhigan: Ignat Sarychev, head of the Moscow CID, has his own score with Kiryan.

Raids, shootouts, ambushes: the ground burns under the dashing zhigan's feet, and he barely holds on to the thieves' crown, but all the sweeter is it to enter a smart restaurant, fire into the ceiling and say: “Calm down, gentlemen, this is a holdup!”
