About the book

1944. The Nazi command realizes that fighting on German territory can no longer be avoided. German engineers propose creating a single chain of fortifications out of border castle-towns suitable for a long siege. In Moscow the architect Mikhail Velesov works out his own plan for taking the German fortresses. The Stavka is interested in Velesov's developments. Disguised as a sapper captain, he is sent to Poznań, the most fortified node of the German defense. It is there that the fate of the operation must be decided. However, another report from Soviet intelligence forces a serious change in the plans for the coming offensive...

Writing a book about the war is hard: you have to know a great many technical details and details of events. For such a book you have to dig very deep. For example, while writing “The Doomed Citadel” I also used German sources.
