About the book

For some time now people have been disappearing in the vicinity of a taiga settlement. Disfigured bodies of some of them, found by chance, strike terror into the locals. Can it really be the work of a human? But the gamekeeper Timofey is sure: it is the work of a man-eating bear. Hunts are organized for the beast, but each time the predator escapes. After yet another ambush, having killed a she-bear that attacked a hunter, the gamekeeper brings home a living trophy, the cub Mashka, and puts her with the other cubs living in his enclosure. The cub Antoshka becomes very attached to Mashka. A chance helps them escape into the forest. Some time later the number of victims begins to grow. Timofey guesses who is to blame and “draws fire on himself”…
